Despite progress over recent decades, many children across Europe are still being left behind. In both high-income and lower-income countries on the continent, too many children continue to face deep inequalities — including poverty, food insecurity, school dropouts, mental health struggles, and lack of access to quality early education.

Millions of children are growing up without the support they need to reach their full potential. These disparities undermine not only their futures but also the long-term health and prosperity of European societies.

Education is a powerful force for change. It helps children overcome adversity, stay healthy and safe, and build lives filled with opportunity. That’s why we’re working throughout Europe to ensure that every child — no matter their background — has access to a quality education from the very start.
